Coach Cox (that’s me) has been in secondary education since 1995 serving in public and private schools as a teacher, coach, dean, athletic director, associate director of admission, and head of school. He was married in 1993 to Amy. They have one son (born in 1995) and three daughters (1999, 2000, 2004).
I have a Bachelor of Science: Secondary Education/English (Toccoa Falls College) and Master of Education: Educational Leadership (Troy State University).
My favorite Pandora Radio stations include Praise and Worship (it really is my favorite…if I could choose only one station, this would be it), Toby Mac (he’s come a long way from NU Thang in the early years of DC Talk), Solo Piano (for background noise in the office to impress people or at the house to make people think our home is relaxed and refined), Show Tunes (currently listening to Edelweiss from the Sound of Music Soundtrack…no lie), Van Halen (when working out mostly), Beastie Boys (also a typical workout station), Eric B. and Rakim (listening to this station, normally at a pre-game or practice shoot-around simply makes me smile and come closer to dancing than anything else) , Dave Mathews Band (they are just crazy talented…seeing them in concert is so impressive), and Coldplay (not sure what it is…they just sometimes hit the spot).
I love the idea of reading lots of books, sometimes going through phases of reading dozens of books in just a few weeks. But mostly I just like to tell people how much I read. I read things like C.S. Lewis, John Maxwell, Rob Bell, Francis Chan (well, I started one book of his…but REALLY like it so far), Malcolm Gladwell, Brian McLaren, Tony Campolo, Shane Claiborne, Donald Miller, and a few coaching books. I’ve read many more authors. But those above I’ve read more than one (except Chan, but, I expect to read more..AND…I’ve watched many youtube videos of him). Also, I really love Ravi Zaharias. I mostly catch him on the radio, but I also have an ap that I read devotions of his or listen to some sermons. That guy is freakin awesome. Oh, I have to give credit to John Acuff. I just read Start. And it would be unfair of me not to mention that reading his book compelled me to start a blog. I wish it was a better story, but its not.
I have taught Old Testament to high school/middle school students for nine years at two different schools. I have taught many SundaySchool and evening adult discipleship classes. I have even preached a few Sunday morning sermons. But to be honest, I think I ruined my opportunity to preach regularly when I told the congregation that I bought my suit at a thrift shop in Cleveland, Georgia for $3. It seemed like a real blessing to find that suit. But, I guess I should have kept that to myself. I don’t have that suit any more. I gave it to Goodwill.
